Sustainability

Indio Surfboards are built in factories that respect both their workers and the environment. We believe that quality, responsibility and sustainability should go hand in hand, ensuring every board is produced under fair working conditions and in compliance with environmental regulations.

INDIO SURFBOARDS · SUSTAINABILITY

Different constructions.
Different impact.

Sustainability starts with understanding how our boards are made, where their materials come from and how long they can stay in the water. Each Indio construction takes a different approach to reducing its environmental impact.

01 / CONSTRUCTION

Indio
Endurance

Our Endurance boards are produced in an advanced factory in China with many years of experience and a solid team.

Most of the main materials used in production, including EPS, epoxy resin, fiberglass and wood, are sourced locally. This helps reduce the transportation of raw materials from overseas and therefore lowers the environmental impact associated with logistics and CO₂ emissions.

MATERIALS

Local sourcing

EPS, epoxy resin, fiberglass and wood are sourced locally whenever possible, reducing the need to transport raw materials from overseas.

LOGISTICS

Lower transport impact

Local sourcing helps reduce the environmental impact associated with transporting raw materials over long distances.

PRODUCTION

Certified processes

The factory works under international certifications covering environmental management, quality management and occupational health and safety.

Management
ISO 9001

Quality management system ensuring controlled processes, consistency and continuous improvement.

Health & Safety
ISO 45001

Occupational health and safety management system focused on reducing workplace risks.

Indio
Soft

Our Indio Soft boards are produced in an experienced factory in Taiwan specialised in softboard manufacturing and also materials for other industries. Advanced and technological, with a strong focus on workers and the environment.

Materials are sourced locally whenever possible and the production process uses water-based materials and adhesives.

The factory has also been independently studied by Bureau Veritas, analysing the environmental impact and CO₂ emissions related to the manufacturing process.

This assessment provides real data about the production footprint and shows the benefits of local sourcing, efficient manufacturing and the use of water-based materials, even when production takes place overseas.

03 / CONSTRUCTION

Indio
x Suntech

Indio x Suntech combines durability, repairability and a construction designed to reduce waste.

Based in Peru, they have a great testing field, being tested for decades by the majority of surf schools and surfers in the area.

The boards use a glue-free construction and materials that can be separated more easily at the end of the product's life, helping improve recyclability compared with traditional surfboard construction.

93%
Less resin than conventional surfboards
01

93% Less Resin

Suntech boards are not traditionally laminated, allowing the construction to use up to 93% less resin than conventional surfboards. Resin is mainly used to integrate the double-T aluminium stringer into the EPS core.

02

Zero Waste

Production offcuts are collected and recycled. EPS waste is returned to the supplier and reused, while Vinylflex offcuts can be recycled into materials for other industrial applications.

03

Built To Last

Durability is also an important part of sustainability. Indio x Suntech boards are designed for long-term use and can be repaired when necessary, helping extend the life of the board and reduce replacement.

Factory certification
ISO 9001
Materials are sourced locally in Peru whenever possible and the factory operates under ISO 9001 certification.
Data & Methodology

Comparative reference data from SurfScience reports an average carbon footprint of 181 kg CO₂e for a 6'1" polyester shortboard and around 454 kg CO₂e for a 9'1" epoxy longboard. These figures are used as comparative references and are not part of the Indio Softboard carbon footprint assessment.
